I'm trying something new(ish) today – I've only done this once before: uploaded a video to my blog.  Josette Marano at Detroit Public Television has created a 3-minute promo clip for the Being Strategic show, and I'd love to get your feedback on it.

So, the main question is – does it make you curious and/or interested in watching the show?

It makes me curious to watch the show because I really enjoyed your speaking. But the many stripes during the transitions made it sometimes hard to concentrate on what was being said. In the second audience shot, the one girl looks a little uninterested. All in all, I thought it looked very professional and interesting.

Thanks very much for your comments, Anna. I thought the same about the moving stripes, and asked the editor to make then happen less often!

    Warmly,
    Erika

  3. Erika, I can’t wait to see this! The video definitely made me curious. Do you have a date that it will air?

I love that the trailer made you curious…thats exactly its purpose!

As to when the show is airing, every public television station makes its own determination about when (and whether) to air it. Id suggest you go to your local stations website and look at the alphabetical program listing, or put being strategic in the program search field. And if you dont find it, you can email or call them and ask for it…the folks at DPTV who produced it have told us that public TV stations are very responsive, generally, to viewer requests.

Hope youre having a wonderful summer…

    Warmly,
    Erika

The initial pic on the video of you is not very inviting or warm. Your blog pic is… I’d find some other way to introduce you via an photo image.

My only concern is that the promo feel like another ‘self-help’ seminar for the individual. Certainly organizations are made of individuals. Their conversation and examples you outline in “Being Strategic” begins with helping people handle these questions individually, but it feels more like therapy (to me) than advisory on how to take a group of people, employees, team or even a family to an aligned set of objectives that they all can contribute and make successful given their individual strengths and pursuits.

The questions you ask are key; the answers will evolve but how will the viewpoints be scaled and built upon to leverage the emerging wisdom? Even after all these years, I still find, in most organizations I know, strategy, structure, talent mgt/selection is still leadership’s first choice for driving change, i.e. ‘top down’. You may argue that globalization is changing this traditional approach and the market will reward strategic and unifying behavior that you speak about. However, consolidating viewpoints into unifying direction can be; and generally is, messy and not linear.

I look forward to seeing the telecast in Chicago this fall. I know it will be successful.

    Regards

That’s helpful; I agree…I look a little disengaged. Based on the feedback we’ve gotten from you and others, we’re making a new promo. I’d love your feedback on that one, too!

      Thanks!

      Erika
